Talk on Quakers and the Underground Railroad

Thomas Hamm speaks on “Quakers and the Underground Railroad in the mid-19th century,” coinciding with the Hoosier History told in miniature exhibit at the Museum of Miniature Houses, an official Bicentennial Legacy Project, and especially pertaining to the museum’s miniature replica of the Levi Coffin House that is considered the main station on the Underground Railroad.

The talk is co-sponsored by the Carmel Clay Historical Society.  Admission is free.

Considered the country’s leading authority on Quakers, Dr. Hamm has been Professor of History and Director of Special Collections at Earlham College in Richmond, IN since 1988.  He has served as president of the Indiana Association of Historians and the Society of Indiana Archivists, has published widely, has frequently presented papers at conferences, and has received numerous awards for his scholarship.
