Angela Lee Duckworth says, “Grit is sticking with your future day in, day out and not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years.” Her research, writing, and presentations on grit and resistance and resiliency have gone viral.  We are more post pandemic than we were in 2020, but we are still living in challenging times in 2022.  Now more than ever, the world needs to hear how we women have survived and thrived despite less pay, less respect, the objectification of our bodies, and the many hurdles we have to overcome to achieve what we want while living in this man’s world.  In this workshop, we will clarify what grit is and isn’t, grit writing strategies, and write to some grit prompts.

About the Instructor:
Lyn Jones is the Education Outreach Director of the Indiana Writers Center, where she has facilitated over 50 urban outreach writing programs including I Remember: Indianapolis Youth Write about Their Lives, Girls in Prison Speak, Sitting at the Feet of our Elders at Flanner House, Recording War Memories, Special Needs Moms Writing, and with Homeless Women of Wheeler. Lyn is passionate about both literacy and literary and has devoted her 27 years of professional life to teaching and writing with writers both in and out of classrooms. Lyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Secondary Education from Purdue University, a Master’s Degree in Literacy, Language, and Culture from Indiana University, and a doctorate in Adult, Higher, and Community Education from Ball State University. She is the author of the popular educational book, Painless Reading Comprehension, several academic articles on topics ranging from collaborative writing to transformative education to disability studies, and has presented at more than 100 local, state, and national conferences or workshops.  Lyn is also a creative narrative nonfiction writer who has published essays in the Indy Writes Book, Permission, Speak Your Story, and Autism Digest.
