Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows broke the stained-glass ceiling, becoming the first African American woman to head a diocese of the Episcopal Church worldwide. She grew up in a housing project on Staten Island in New York City and studied architecture at Smith College and historic preservation at Cornell. Bishop Baskerville-Burrows’ vision for the future of the church includes counteracting the fragmentation of today’s culture and providing places where people can satisfy their need to belong.
