Wrestling With The Infinite at UUI: Midrash

Genesis starts with a bang – Creation and the first people. But the stories quickly get pretty rough with murder, human sacrifice, and betrayal. How do the beginning biblical stories relate to us now? Religion, Spirituality & the Arts Alumni Artists present art created after in-depth studies of 5 stories from Genesis.

Rabbi Sandy Sasso, RSA program director; and David Landis, artist will discuss Midrash: commentaries & explorations of biblical texts. Their talk during the Sunday Service will provide insights into how the exhibiting artists were inspired to develop new stories from ancient ones. Poetry by RSA writer artists, including Indiana’s 2017 Poet Laureate Shari Wagner, will be woven into the service.

Following the service, about 11:30, several participating artists will provide a\ tour of their exhibit to add their thoughts & inspirations about the Genesis stories they studied and answer your questions.

On Sunday, June 24, 10:30-11:30am, Dan Cooper, visual artist; and Mark Kesling, artist and founder & CEO of The DaVinci Pursuit, will lead a discussion about re-imagining Genesis for today’s world.
