I have always had an innate desire to create art. As a young child I dabbled in drawing, however, I was too timid to work with paint. Therefore, I continued to work with graphite as my sole medium. Although drawing was an instinctive joy for me, I too k time away from sketching to raise a family for twenty-five years. Subsequently, I enrolled in college to further my artistic skills. I am delighted to say that one of my most enjoyable courses was oil painting. While drawing with graphite was a passion for me, I was enthralled with the unique differences oil painting had to offer. In addition to my degree in Fine Arts, I have been developing my skills with a self-tutelage method. I am fascinated with all genres of art; however, my one true passion is portraits.

100+ community organizations collaborate around an annual theme to create 10 days of innovative, never-seen-before events each November. We live in a choose-your-niche, all-others-be-damned world. Republicans vs. Democrats. Women vs. Men. The 1 percent vs. the 99 percent. Urban vs. rural. Natives vs. Immigrants. Haves vs. have nots. Sacred vs. secular.  In our divided, divisive, and sometimes uncivil society, we need organizations, activities, and events that unite us. Transcend our differences. Generate ideas. Spark action for the common good.  Spirit & Place does that. Through year-round programming and an annual festival, Spirit & Place brings people and organizations together to build bridges, open minds, touch hearts, inspire reflection, and help our community move forward in new ways.  Spirit & Place is a winner of the NUVO Cultural Vision Award and the Indiana Achievement Award. Since 1996, it has worked with 600+ community organizations, 5,250 idea-makers, and 275,000 people.  Our mission is to be a catalyst for civic engagement through creative collaborations among the arts, humanities, and religion. Through the arts, the festival uses the language of metaphor to explore sometimes difficult ideas.Through the humanities, the festival illuminates the distinct and common narratives of the human condition. Through religion, the festial embraces the values of compassion, fairness, hospitality, and service that fuel our life in community. Spirit & Place is a community project managed by The Polis Center, part of the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI. The Polis Center works collaboratively to provide community-based research, analysis, information, and access to advanced information technologies. Spirit & Place is an example of Polis’s commitment to creating collaborative, practical, and effective solutions for the communities in which we live.
