Nick May is an artist whose practice is rooted in chosen family, queer world building, and radical expressions of joy. May paints their queer friends on large canvases with flamboyant colors and earnest attention to detail to not only catalog this moment in queer Indiana, but to also pay homage to the subjects themselves. Painted from carefully staged photo references, their portraits are nearly life-size and meticulously painted in decadent celebration of queer resiliency, empowerment, and joy.

Nick May received their Bachelor of Fine Arts with emphasis in Painting from Ball State University and is currently working as a freelance portrait artist, DJ, and part-time service worker in Indianapolis, Indiana.
