Active as a recitalist, orchestral musician, chamber musician, and educator, Yuan-Yuan Wang performs regularly with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, and the Evansville Philharmonic. She has also appeared in multiple concerts, while collaborating with principals of North Carolina Symphony Orchestra and faculty artists at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

In orchestras, she has performed with many leading concertmasters, including Alex Kerr, Willian Preucil, Robert Chen Timothy Lees, and Jorja Fleezanis. She has also performed under the direction of Krzysztof Urbanski, Roberto Abbado, Xian Zhang, Franz Welser-Most, Michael Stern, Leonard Slatkin, Giancarlo Guerrero, and Ludovic Morlot.

Yuan-Yuan Wang, holds a Doctor of Music degree in violin performance from Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington, as well as Master’s of Music in violin performance. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Her major teachers included Mark Kaplan, Paul Biss, Martin Beaver, Misha Rosenker, Keng-Yuen Tseng and John Mrill. Before arriving in the United States from China for high school, she attended the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and Wuhan Conservatory.

Her doctoral dissertation “Ma Si-Cong’s Violin Concerto in F Major: Western Traditions and Chinese Elements” is a representation of her strong music theory knowledge and her lifelong experience as a violin performer. She has a unique point of view as a classical musician who has professional training from both the Eastern and Western traditions of performance.

An advocate of contemporary music, Ms. Wang has performed with the New Music Ensemble at Indiana University. She was a featured soloist Midwest Composers Symposium 2012 and has premiered new works by Don Fraud, Sung-Mi ng Ahn, Elliot Bark, Chia-Ying Chaing, and others. As an ensemble player, she has premiered a number of contemporary operas.

Ms. Wang has been a studio teacher since high school and has taught students of all ages and levels. She has experience in technical and fundamental instructions, and often prepares students for school entrance exams, orchestra auditions, and competitions. In addition to studio teaching, Ms. Wang has been involved in many educational concerts and activities around the state of Indiana. She has also established a music theory program in her church community.
