Sara (SaraBellum) White is a self taught working artist. She has a distinct signature style infused with black swirls and bright colors. She is also inspired by animals and nature in general. Sara has always been busy making some sort of artwork. As a child she attended painting classes at a local art store downtown and would make crafts in her spare time at home. As she recalls her childhood Sara says, ” I never really wanted just regular toys, I always had to have something interactive like a paint by numbers set or a microscope with slides and pieces for observation, and my parents always supported that. I think that had a lot to do with me staying on my course as an artist.”  However, It wasn’t until her move to Atlanta from 2002-2010 that she began to immerse herself into painting completely. Born and raised in small town Lafayette, Indiana where being a person of color was not very popular Sara longed for culture and colorful people, Atlanta is where she found it. Surrounded by likeminded artist that were not afraid to push the extremes and be themselves helped Sara to grow comfortable with her own unique style. Sara has participated in many collaborative art shows. She has been able to successfully sell artwork and do commission jobs for well over a decade. Aspiring to be a curator of her own art shows one day, she hopes to provide a platform for other artist to display their work. Her biggest motivation for creating art is Life itself, all the pain, the joy and struggle involved in living, is what keeps her coming back to the canvas. She pulls visual inspirations from nature and visions she says that have often come to her in a dream.  Sara says “My mother told me once while reading her scripture that God had told her to tell me to paint what I see, not matter what that is. I knew exactly what that meant and it’s exactly what I do.” With great support from peers and the artist community around her, Sara continues to grow and develop as an artist.
