“My images often arise from the memory of being in particular places in nature. I make paintings with the intention of capturing how it felt to be in a place and conveying my impressions of the weather or the light. Often a water body or a sense of weight in the landscape is a catalyst for a painting. During the process of working I enjoy the slow discovery of unexpected color harmonies and the development of odd shapes and compositions. I see a random and beautiful quirkiness in how nature places things in the world and I enjoy making paintings in that same spirit.”
