“Painting is a spiritual experience for me. It transports me to a serene place that I take great pleasure in sharing with others. What drew me to oils is the texture and thickness of the paint. I most enjoy painting with palette knives. I appreciate the way a palette knife lends itself to oils. I can sculpt the paint and create designs using both the colors and the texture of the paint. As a result, each swirl of my palette knife creates interest and beauty within my painting. My inspiration comes from subjects of a gentler nature ~ children on a beach, flowers, seascapes, cattle grazing in a field, resulting in work that is impressionistic, romantic and reflects the quieter aspects of life. People often tell me that they like the colors, the harmony, the effects of light and/or the feeling of joy coming from my paintings. Whether it’s a land or seascape, a figure, a still life, whatever I’m painting, it is my hope that my work touches each soul in a peaceful way.” Colleen Lauter
