Cindi Elkins holds an AAS degree in Visual Communications/Multimedia Applications from
Ivy Tech Community College and BFA degree from Indiana University, Herron School of Art
and Design, with a focus on Ceramics and Psychology. During her academic career Ms.
Elkins was a Nina Mason Pulliam Scholar, Interned in the Marketing Department of Ivy
Tech Community College, and received a grant to develop her concept of Planar Planks, a
new art medium to be administered in Art Therapy, from Indiana University, Purdue
University Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program.
As an artist, Ms. Elkins has been exhibited in various mediums; work in Digital Imaging at
the Commons Gallery and the Stutz Gallery, work in Ceramics receiving honorable mention,
at the Herron Galleries, Indy Clay Co-Op and The Reflected Light Exhibition, and Illustrative work displayed in a
group exhibition at the Harrison Art Center.
Currently Ms. Elkins primary focus is ceramics figurative sculpture. The medium she
predominantly works is porcelain‐utilizing hand building techniques, such as pinch pot,
coil and slab building. As a part of her objective she desires her entire process of sculpture
to be done without using armatures to create her pieces. Conceptually the themes of her
series deal heavily in expressionism, surrealism, and abstract thinking, derived from her
psychology background. The idea to “connect the dots” to what appears to be random
challenges her audience to consider why and how does this relate.
