Thank you to those of you who participated in one or more of the events and activities during National Arts in Education Week last week, September 11 – 17, 2016! It was a very successful week, and we would like to share the following highlights with you:

Last week, 26 local arts organizations participated in a Week of Giving to raise funds for arts education programming in partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools. Next week, we will share the tally of the total amount raised through the Week of Giving to bring high-quality arts programming to the students of IPS. If you were unable to make a donation last week, we encourage you to still make a donation to one or more of the participating organizations. Click here to learn more.

Monday, September 12–Kickoff Celebration & Arts Education Trivia Night
In addition to the Week of Giving, 60 members of the Indianapolis community attended the Kickoff Celebration on Monday, September 12 where they witnessed the presentation of the Any Given Child Indy 2016-2017 Community Report. On Monday, September 12, 35 community members also participated in an Arts Education Trivia Night at Sun King Brewery and competed to win a Sun King prize pack worth $100! Attendees were surprised at how much they remembered from their elementary and middle school arts classes! Tuesday, September 13–Indy Arts Educator Network Meeting
On Tuesday, September 13, 15 local arts educators and program administrators gathered together at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to discuss current arts education programs and Any Given Child Indy. Wednesday, September 14–Arts Education School Tours
On Wednesday, September 14, a group of 20 arts administrators and teachers toured Edison School of the Arts IPS School 47 and Tindley Genesis Academy, two high-performing arts schools in Indianapolis. During the school tours, those in attendance were able to hear firsthand from the schools’ principals, have the opportunity to ask questions, and visit a handful of classrooms.

Thursday, September 15–Committee Meetings & Teaching Artist Lecture
On Thursday, September 15, 41 community members, arts administrators, educators, philanthropists, media personnel, as well as business and religious leaders gathered at various locations around the city for the initial committee meetings of the Any Given Child Indy Implementation Team. At Arts for Learning on Thursday evening, a dozen people learned about teaching artistry from Director of Artist Programs Stephanie Haines, had the opportunity to witness a storytelling demonstration by teaching artist Bob Sander, and asked questions to teaching artist Jingo de la Rosa and student Janay Watson about their experiences in the field. Friday, September 16–IPS Student Performers Showcase
On Friday, September 16, 70 people enjoyed musical performances by students from Indianapolis Public Schools and surrounding schools in central Indiana. Participating student groups included the Indy Jazz Fest Jazz Futures, a vocal nonet from Roussea McClellan School 91, and the Herron High School jazz ensemble.

Saturday, September 17–Creativity Fest
On Saturday afternoon, Arts for Learning hosted their annual Creativity Fest in which participants were able to experience performances and workshops by teaching artists who bring the arts into classrooms across Indiana. Workshops and performances were available across all art forms including music, theatre, storytelling, visual, and multi-arts.
