To kick off National Arts in Education Week in Indianapolis, we are announcing our nine 2017-18 Any Given Child Indy schools and highlighting their Arts in Education Week events!

The nine schools who will participate in the first year of Any Given Child Indy are:

  9. Washington Irving School #14

Many of our Any Given Child Indy schools have planned events to celebrate National Arts in Education Week. Read below to see what each school has planned for this week!

Clarence Farrington School #61

  • On Wednesday of National Arts in Education Week, kindergarten parents are invited to the school for “Muffins with Mom and Doughnuts with Dad.” The music teacher and choir will go into each classroom so students can perform for their parents. The students’ artwork will also be displayed in their classrooms during the week for their parents.
  • “Cave Art” will be posted on the ceilings of the Art/Music wing for the parents of grades 3-6 who visit the school during National Arts in Education Week.

Edison School of the Arts #47

  • Kids Dance Outreach will be working with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders during the week.
  • Donna Rund, from Clowes Memorial Hall, will provide Professional Development for the staff.
  • The school will host the Indy Arts Educators Network meeting.

Eliza Blaker School #55

  • A display in the school entry will feature photos of students creating, as well as information about Any Given Child.
  • Sixth grade students have been studying events and accounts of 9/11. Students will create artworks to honor the civilians and servicemen lost on that day.
  • Sixth grade students will be studying the lyrics of Michael Jackson as they learn about theme. They will compare the experiences of listening to music and reading poetry, as well as creating musical lyrics of their own.
  • Third grade students have been studying world cultures and the art of tableau. They will perform their tableaus for their peers.
  • Sewing Club begins on Wednesday. Students in grades 4-6 meet after school in the art room to develop machine sewing skills and fabric techniques.

James Russell Lowell #51

  • Music: students are using Latin instruments, and media teachers will read a story about music in many nations.
  • Art: students are painting images from Latin America.
  • Dance: students are learning Latin dance before school.
  • Paintings will be displayed and teachers will incorporate music into their read-aloud by reading and listening to Hip Hop Speaks to Children: A Celebration of Poetry With a Beat
  • Latin America is the focus of the school’s Arts in Education Week to incorporate Hispanic heritage month into the arts. A culminating assembly will be held later in September highlighting all components of the arts.

Ralph Waldo Emerson School #58

  • Any Given Child materials will be posted in a display and in the parent center
  • The Parent Involvement Educator will put a blurb about upcoming fine arts activities in the school newsletter

Washington Irving School #14

  • An Any Given Child Indy representative will have a table at the back-to-school carnival.
