On Saturday, April 7, Indianapolis Public Schools is hosting a Curriculum & Instruction Summit at Forest Manor Professional Development Center, open to any teacher in the Indianapolis area. The day is broken into three sessions: one keynote session and two sessions with multiple breakout topics to choose from. Each session is 70 minutes, with a 10-15 minute break between each session. Participants may choose to attend one to three sessions throughout the day. The Keynote Speaker, Nancy Steineke, specializes in content-area literacy, nonfiction writing, purposeful close reading, literature circles and student engagement. Topics for the remaining two sessions include Poetry in the Classroom lead by local poet Bonnie Maurer; Orchestrating Discussions; Reading Foundations Throughout the Day; Modeling and Mindset with Mathematics; and more.
