The Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE), the Office of Councilwoman Maria Quiñones-Sánchez and Rebuild announce a Percent for Art opportunity for a site-specific, community driven, piece of public art for the Mann Rivera Renovation Project. The art could include a mosaic installation, mural, or sculptural elements for the project’s perimeter wall.

The goals of this project are to commission a site-specific public art piece that is a true reflection of the people, culture, and community of Fairhill and to create a landmark work of art at this highly visible location in Philadelphia’s vibrant Fairhill neighborhood. Community input is a priority for this project and artist teams are encouraged to work with the public to align their proposal with the desires and feedback from the community.

Three to five (3-5) Semi-Finalists will be selected by a committee comprised of community members. Semi-Finalists will receive a $1000 stipend to cover the costs of producing their proposal including images, models, renderings, or other materials.

WHAT TO PROVIDE

To apply, please provide the following materials as a single Word or PDF document, or as a stapled printed document:

  1. Artist Info: Name, Address, Phone, Email, Website, Race
  2. Resumé or Artist Bio (two-page maximum): tell us about yourself
  3. Artist Statements (3): Tell us about your connections to the Mann Older Adult & Rivera Recreation Center (200 words maximum); Tell us about your connections to the Fairhill community (200 word maximum); Why does this Percent for Art opportunity interest you? (300 word maximum)
  4. Five (5) visual work samples of your previous artwork.  All Images should be labeled as last name, first name, and number; for example:
    Smith_Jane_01. Digital Images should be saved as jpgs, gifs, or pngs at 72 dpi with 1200 pixels as
    the widest dimension.
  5. Image Identification Sheet: These should correspond to the numbers of your submitted images. List your images as: Title. Year. Materials. Dimensions. Location (if applicable). Project Budget (if applicable).

Title your digital document file as last name first name Info; for example: Smith_Jane_Info
