The STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts & Mathematics) Education Coordinator (SEC) will serve as a representative of PEMC located at the near westside 16 Tech makerspace, Machyne. Machyne is a 15,000 square foot facility in the heart of the 16 Tech Innovation District and owned by the non-profit 16 Tech Community Corporation.

This incumbent will work alongside Educators in both the Community Development and 4-H Youth Development program areas to deliver hands-on maker programming for both youth and adults. The STEAM Education Coordinator will provide and promote results-driven educational opportunities through research, coordination, use of existing and creating new curricula, facilitation and evaluation of hands-on STEAM and maker programming. The SEC will create and maintain the community maker education program, on behalf of PEMC, utilizing effective marketing and communications strategies with a focus on reaching communities typically underrepresented in Indiana’s STEAM workforce. The SEC will create and steward strong connections in and outside of the Indianapolis makerspace, information technology, and engineering community. The SEC will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team within PEMC.

 

Responsibilities: 

Research, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate innovative STEAM educational programming for youth ages 12-18 and adults age 18+, with a focus on reaching underappreciated Marion County communities
Create, promote, and maintain external partnerships that further the Extension mission and reach within Marion County
Attend various staff/committee/board/council meetings, and as needed, attend statewide Community Development and 4-H Youth Development program meetings
Maintain appropriate levels of communication with PEMC team
Maintain high levels of professionalism at all times as a representative of PEMC, seek opportunities to increase knowledge and skills relevant to position, and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
Perform other duties as assigned

Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working directly with small and large groups of K-12 youth
Passion for working with diverse audiences and hands-on STEAM learning
Understanding of project-based learning principles
Share Purdue Extension Marion County commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive society
Ability to work independently with little to no direct supervision
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong community partnerships.
Ability to learn new skills including high-tech and classic design and fabrication resources
A positive and friendly personality
Philanthropic and service-oriented mindset
Comfort speaking in public to small- and large-sized groups
Basic knowledge of computers and computer applications
Proven ability to command an audience or manage a group or classroom
Willingness to work most Saturdays (8am-12pm) and many early evenings (5pm-7pm)
Valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license
Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, health and human sciences, technology or related field
Basic understanding of computer coding
Previous experience exploring CAD personally, professionally, or through college coursework

A background check and MVR check is required for employment in this position
Travel using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided) and evening and weekend work is an integral part of this position
