The Harrison Center wants to celebrate your imagination, your creativity, your hopes and dreams and visions of our city to be shared in an exhibition titled Imagine Indianapolis and is scheduled to run Nov. 5-29 in the Speck Gallery. Submission deadline is Sept. 15.

The show is open to anyone with an imagination. And let your imagination wander wherever it might. Your ideas can be traditional or wildly speculative, carved in limestone or accessed only on your smartphone. They don’t need to be practical, achievable, affordable or even aligned with the laws of physics (time travel…?). But you will need to represent your concepts in a 30×30 inch image with a written explanation not to exceed 500 words.

For example, you might imagine a year-long series of poems presented in skywriting. Or streets that sing as you drive along. Or pop-up monuments celebrating events long forgotten or waiting to happen. Or a novel written by 100 authors who attended the same high school, etc, etc.

There will be cash prizes: $419 first place; $317 second place; $223 third place and $109 fourth place. All prime numbers. Did you know your area code was prime?

Imagine Indianapolis will be curated by Steve Mannheimer, once professor of painting at Herron School of Art & Design and art critic for the Indianapolis Star, now teaching at the School of Informatics and Computing, IUPUI.
