New Photography 2022
Aurora PhotoCenter, in partnership with Gallery 924 and the Arts Council of Indianapolis, seeks entries from Central Indiana photographers and photo-based artists for a group show, entitled New Photography 2022. This exhibition will showcase topical subjects, themes, modalities, and methods that are engaging Central Indiana photographers now, in this important moment.
Since Aurora’s last exhibition at Gallery 924 in November 2019, the world has experienced seismic changes, with the pandemic, protests for racial, social, and economic justice, and shifts in how we work and make work, go to school, and live. Many in our Central Indiana arts community relied on photography as a means to document and respond to the changes of the last two years. Photography helped us keep a record, keep us sane, and keep us creating with beauty, revelations, and new directions for exploration.
New Photography 2022 will highlight photographic work of any process, size, or shape made on or after January 1, 2020. Aurora PhotoCenter will consider any photo-based images that fit within that wide description, so feel free to get creative in its interpretation. This can include the combination of photography with other media. However, photography should be the primary media.
The opening for New Photography 2022 will be Friday, February 4. 2022 from 6 – 9 p.m.
Eligibility
All Central Indiana photographers and photo-based artists over the age of 18 are welcome to submit work for consideration. For these purposes, Central Indiana is considered Marion and the seven surrounding counties: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan, and Hendricks; artists must live in one of these counties to be eligible.
