The Youth Development Art Instructor will plan, implement, supervise and evaluate activities within the arts & crafts area. The person in this position is responsible for preparing lessons, sourcing art supplies, and providing developmentally appropriate instruction on art techniques to youth aged 6-18. Hours are typically 2 p.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enthusiasm and patience for working with youth and passion about education, health, character development and leadership
- Must be a team player and self-starter
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity
- Must have at least a high school diploma
- Experience working with youth, and art education/experience
- Must be able to work evenings.
Responsibilities:
- Promotes and stimulates program participation among members.
- Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
- Teaches and demonstrates skills and information in art, including drawing, lettering, photography, illustration and art history, painting, sketching, designing, and sculpting.
- Explains different art elements.
- Establishes, develops, and implements art curriculum and course materials. Teaches students how to express themselves through art.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Monitors inventory and sourcing art supplies, as needed.
- Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Plans and presents contests, art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the Club and the community.
- Organizes visits to museums and art galleries.
- Inputs and gathers data, as appropriate, in the membership management and/or outcomes management system, works with other staff to implement special projects.
- Ensures a healthy and safe environment for all members.
- Works effectively with supervisor, other staff, members, parents, and community leaders and organizations to provide exemplary services to youth.
Supervision:
- Maintains members order and discipline by managing members behaviors; reinforces rules & expectations of the clubhouse
- Maintains a clean room/environment by sweeping/disinfecting, and organizing at the end of the day.
- Participates in clubhouse staff meetings.
