Arts Program Intern 
City Of Indianapolis and Marion County – Indianapolis, IN 
$10 an hour

Position is responsible for working with Park staff in developing, implementing, evaluating, promoting and marketing summer arts programs for youth and families at the Garfield Park Arts Center and for special events at Garfield Park. 
Intern will gain hands-on arts education knowledge working with the Arts Center team. The candidate will receive a broad experience in youth and family program development and teaching, arts administration, program marketing and evaluation, and customer service. 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with youth and family visual and performing arts programs. 
  • Assist with activity stations during Park special events. 
  • Provide quality customer service to the public (youth, families, visitors, and diverse community groups). 
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a special art project within the internship period. 
  • Assist staff with arts education initiatives, such as summer arts day camp and Saturday’s “Arts for All” program, which includes aiding with teaching, registration, supplies and daily program operations. 
  • Assist in marketing arts programs and cross-promoting park-wide special events and Friends of Garfield Park special events. 
  • Must be able to follow instructions given by Parks staff.

Qualifications: Must be interested in the field of arts education, arts administration, youth and family programming and special events. Experience in these areas is preferred. Some coursework in art, education, museum studies, arts administration or related field work required. Must be CPR/First Aid certified or be willing to obtain certification. 

Independent Judgment: The incumbent filing this position is encouraged to use their own judgment and initiative based on the guidance from Park staff and best practices developed for marketing and promotional professionals as well as park and recreation professionals.
