Artlink Inc. seeks an innovative and experienced Executive Director to lead its organization.

BACKGROUND

Artlink is a 501(c)(3) non‐profit contemporary art gallery incorporated in 1978. Artlink is committed to showcasing work of the highest quality by diverse visual artists. They provide educational programming for artists and the community. Artlink is a funded partner of Arts United and serves the Fort Wayne community as well as Northeast Indiana. They are proud to have 650 members who contribute to Artlink each year with 450 of the members being artists.

Each year Artlink offers various educational programming that is monitored by the Education Committee to further serve our community and implement the exhibitions.

PRIORITIES AND ONGOING RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for implementing and enhancing the organization’s strategic goals, leading and sustaining fundraising initiatives, developing and administering program activities and leadership of day‐to‐day operation of Artlink. The individual selected must be bold and creative in continuing to expand Artlink’s reach within the community to engage with its needs while furthering its mission.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of Artlink, Inc. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. In program development and administration, the Executive Director will:

Specific committee responsibilities:

1. Assure that the organization has a long‐range mission and validates its efforts to reaching these goals.

2. Lead and provide the effort to fundraising, grant writing and foundation support to implement the financial plans of the Board of Directors, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.

3. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.

4. Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

5. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.

6. Chair the Artist Panel, the exhibition planning committee.

7. Be responsible for exhibition implementation.

In communications, the Executive Director will:

1. Ensure that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.

2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.

3. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.

4. Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.

In relations with staff, the Executive Director will:

1. Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.

2. Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.

3. See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.

4. Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.

5. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

In budget and finance, the Executive Director will:

1. Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.

2. Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing a budget and ensuring that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

3. Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.

4. Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents

QUALIFICATIONS

The Executive Director will have excellent communication skills and will develop and maintain regular and frequent communication with the Board. He/she will also possess a passion and ability for developing and maintaining long‐term relationships that will enhance the financial, artistic and educational goals of Artlink. A strong background in visual arts is preferred as the Executive Director coordinates the Artlink exhibition schedule as part of their responsibilities.

  • Strong background in visual arts preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong development and administrative skills.
  • Fundraising experience required.
  • Grant writing experience preferred.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit; specifically, vision coupled with motivation and execution.
  • A strategic thinker with an innovative style, and a willingness to try new strategies.
  • Possessing business acumen with financial responsibility is vital.
  • A successful track record of leadership.
  • An individual who is mission driven and makes decisions based on the organization’s intended vision.
  • Nonprofit experience desirable.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Compensation commensurate with experience.
