The Arts Council of Indianapolis announces an opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student, or recent B.A./M.A. holder, to serve as an intern with its Public Art department for the fall semester 2016.  The department consists of one full-time Director and a Public Art Coordinator shared with the Artist Services department.

The intern will assist the current staff with a planned update of the Arts Council’s Public Art Directory.  Duties will consist of reviewing entries for accuracy, researching facts, correcting and expanding entries, adding photography, and (skills permitting) taking new photography.

The intern will also assist the staff in developing new strategies for public engagement with the Public Art Directory, including (for example) scavenger hunts, online games, or new forms of guided or self-guided tours.

In addition to performing assigned tasks, the intern will be exposed to many facets of public art work including project meetings, on-site installations, master planning and community engagement.  The intern may also be exposed to other Arts Council departments including Artist Services, Artsgarden, Gallery 924, Grant Services, Art Education, and Marketing.

The intern may also work on a public art-related independent project with departmental supervision, as desired.

The internship schedule is flexible.  The intern may work two or three blocks of time per week as convenient for him/her between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The total number of hours for this internship is 150 during the course of the fall semester, which will be ideally a fixed amount of 10 hours a week for 15 weeks.

Compensation:  $1,500 for the semester (based on 150 hours @ $10/hr)
