Theme: The Gospel of Matthew

The Gospel of Matthew is the ancient Biblical text at the beginning of the New Testament attributed to Matthew, one of the twelve apostles called by Jesus. The Gospel tells the account of Jesus Christ, the long-prophesied Jewish Messiah, from his birth to his resurrection. The numerous Old Testament references suggest Matthew wrote to a Jewish audience, however several passages referring to “all nations” demonstrates the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant that Messiah would come to save people from every nation. The narrative is interrupted five times with blocks of Jesus’ teachings known as the Five Discourses. With 31 occurrences of “Kingdom of Heaven” Matthew’s Gospel describes what a community of disciples should look like on earth.
