Job Description : The Manager of School Programs is responsible for setting the strategic direction for k – 16 programming programs for the Indiana State Museum including the development and implementation of programs. These programs are for students and educations and may include lectures, festivals, camps, workshops and professional development for educators. The Manager of School Programs will serve on exhibition teams as assigned. Within the k-16 programs area of responsibility, this position is expected to manage staff workloads, schedules, and ensure on time completion of tasks. Additionally this position is responsible for assisting in the development and management of project budgets and preparation of program related grants.
Responsibilities :

Vision and Leadership:

  • Administer and manage educational programs for k – 16 audiences including workshops, classes, lectures and outreach programs.
  • Work with the Director of Education and Outreach and other departmental staff to develop and implement strategic goals, objectives and action plans for education and outreach programming.
  • Work with Education & Outreach Department to create a comprehensive education and outreach program schedule.
  • Work with marketing and communications staff to develop and implement a marketing and sales program in support of programs and activities.
  • Provide program development and implementation for changing exhibitions and core galleries.
  • Connect Core Galleries to K-16 educational standards and programming
  • Understand K-16 curriculum development and standards in order to connect museum offerings to these school needs
  • Make and maintain contact with peers at other institutions in the area.
  • Maintain the “Learning” page on the ISMHS website
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Community and Support Organizations:

  • Develop and implement collaborative programming, including statewide outreach.
  • Present workshops and lecture sessions on various topics at local and statewide museum and education and/or performing arts associations and organizations.

Operations and Supervision:

  • Present and/or facilitate k – 16 programs including events, workshops, camps, festivals and activities.
  • Work with State Historic Sites staff to coordinate programming.
  • Develop and administer annual budget for k – 16 programming.
  • Prepare and administer project budgets for k – 16 programming.
  • Review work schedules and goals for k – 16 programming.
  • Work with the Visitor Advocate and Survey Specialist to develop and implement on-going evaluation for all recurring and pilot programming and produce relevant reports.
  • Serve on museum project teams.
  • Supervise School Programs staff through annual performance evaluations, monitoring project goals and objectives related to program development, program effectiveness and evaluation, and budget accuracy and awareness.

Preferred Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required. Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Five years museum experience; administrative experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-traditional teaching methods.
  • Knowledge of trends in museum education. Knowledge of similar programs in other museum and education settings.
  • Evidence of creative program development.
  • Ability to relate to diverse audiences personally and through programs.
  • Ability to respond effectively to evaluations and to accept critical suggestions.
  • Familiarity with ADA compliance rules and procedures and awareness of cultural sensitivity issues.
  • Strong public speaking, organizational, networking and public relations skills.
  • Critical thinking and analysis skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of marketing trends related to program customers.
  • Professional contacts in the field of museum education.
  • Broad understanding and experience in museum education for diverse audiences.
  • Supervisory abilities and effective human resource skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Research skills and ability to produce accurate information.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate concepts and information on a variety of Indiana-related topics for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $34,000.00 /year
