The Arts Council of Indianapolis and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful have partnered, through KIB’s IPL Project Greenspace, to create a trailhead pocket park for the Town of Speedway that includes a commissioned artwork by Anderson artist Arlon Bayliss.  The sculpture was designed to highlight Speedway’s Sister Cities program, with a design reminiscent of a flower spreading seeds throughout the world.

Volunteers are needed to help fabricate the sculpture.  The work involves twisting lightweight strips of metal into a figure-eight shape, and attaching two together to form a “floret” about as big as a hand.  No prior experience is required and no tools are needed.  If you have experience with soldering metal, that would be a plus.

The work session dates are as follows:

• Monday, Sept 19, 5-8 pm
• Wednesday, Sept 21, 5-8 pm
• Saturday, Sept 24, 12-5 pm
• Monday, Sept 26, 5-8 pm
• Wednesday, Sept 28, 5-8 pm
• Saturday, Oct 1, 12-5 pm

Fabrication will take place at 1426 Main St. in Speedway, at the old Speedway Physicians building.  It will be a fun, social experience with many hands making light work of the job!  This is a particularly good activity for teens needing volunteer or service learning credits.
