Catalyst Repertory is hosting their first round of open auditions for their 2017 3rd season opener, Sam Shepard’s, Tooth of Crime. Auditions will be held Friday December 2nd and Saturday the 3rd from 12-5 PM. Auditioners are asked to prepare a brief monologue and be prepared to cold read from the script. Please prepare an a capella rock-style song if interested in a singing (*) role. Roles are paid with profit-share.

Written in the 1970s and later revised, by Shepard himself, into it’s current edition in the ’90s, Tooth of Crime follows aging rock-god or ‘Marker’, Hoss (Davey Pelsue), into his final battle with his rival, a drifter named Crow (Adam Tran). The world of this decadent and brutal play is a dark futuristic wasteland that is dominated by “The Game,” a conflation of rock music, fame-gaming and violence played by “markers,” under the direction of “The Keepers.” Hoss, a Marker, has struggled all his life to become the Top Marker, only to find himself now doubting his own abilities in the face of opposition from Crow, who operates outside of the official rules of The Game. A battle of fame, violence, and music berates the audience with vivid imagery and language as Hoss and Crow enter into a ferocious battle of wits, fists and music. [Rock] Gods will fall.

DOC (40s-60s) – Hoss’s drug supplier and physican.
REFEREE (Any) – The referee for the final showdown.
