Texas State University invites professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to design and fabricate two-dimensional or three-dimensional artwork for the interior walls of a new building on its Round Rock, TX campus. Multiple awards as well as large scale pieces and works in series will be considered and awarded. The site is a new facility for health professions and will be utilized by Texas State health profession students, faculty, and staff, as well as community members visiting active physical therapy, speech-language-hearing, and sleep clinics. Art + Artisans Consulting will facilitate the entire art selection process up through coordination of the installation of all artwork on behalf of Texas State University in collaboration with all artists and University facilities and art committee.
Budget: $246,750 total (number of artworks TBD; some commissioned, some purchased). The budget covers all project-related costs including but not limited to, project design, labor, fabrication, project management, materials, tools, subcontracted services, lighting (if it is an integral part of the particular artwork), travel to complete the artwork if necessary, shipping and delivery of the artwork to site. Individual artists will not be responsible for the installation of their pieces out of their art budget. Any expense that exceeds the contracted amount will be the artist’s responsibility.
Eligibility: Open to all professional artists or artist teams with experience in similar such projects. Artists are allowed to apply in teams. Artists applying as a team must split the allotted number of work examples between themselves. A professional artist is defined as a skilled practitioner in the original arts with an original self-conceptualized body of work, generally recognized by critics and peers as a professional possessing serious intent and ability. Texas State University especially encourages submissions by women, artists of color, and artists from Texas.
Site History
Texas State University is a public, student-centered, emerging research university dedicated to excellence in serving the educational needs of a diverse population of Texas and the world beyond. Texas State University Round Rock Campus was established in 1996 with just a few classes and grew rapidly. Located in one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, Texas State Round Rock offers majors for junior and senior-level undergraduate and for graduate students. The campus partners with the City of Round Rock, the Chamber of Commerce, RRISD and Round Rock Arts Council to host lectures, workshops and cultural events that are open to the broader Round Rock community. Texas State University brings a century-long tradition of higher education to the high-tech and booming Williamson County area.
This new Health Professions Building 1 will provide much needed space for the College of Health Professions. The new 107,564 sf building will house laboratory spaces, clinics, faculty research spaces, and department offices.
Project Description
Health Professions Building 1 features numerous opportunities for interior artwork in key public areas, and will be awarded to multiple qualified artists. Art + Artisans Consulting is handling the call for qualifications and will manage the design collaboration up through installation of all artwork. Artists will work with Art + Artisans Consulting to finalize design concepts for the project.
Students, faculty, staff, and visitors should feel engaged upon viewing artwork. Artwork will be harmonious with the diverse cultures at home at Texas State University. Artwork may seek to bridge the conceptual space between Texas State University San Marcos and Round Rock campuses. Artwork must be suitable for indoor conditions as well as interaction with the general public, and have the capacity to be securely installed in a public area. The work should be prominent and proportional to its surroundings.

Selection Process
Submissions by applicants will be reviewed by Art + Artisans to ensure that each application is legible, complete, and meets all requirements. The pool will be narrowed and then reviewed by the Texas State University Public Art committee who will select a group of artists to produce artwork for the building.
