Dear America: Reflections on Race, a Call for Submissions

The Geeky Press is thrilled to announce their second publishing project, Dear America: Reflections on Race, an anthology that tackles one of the most important issues facing our country. You can download the Call for Submissions (PDF).

Deadline: July 31, 2017

Brad King, Amber Peckham, Nicole Mathew, and Elise Lockwood are seeking narrative essay, creative nonfiction, script photo, and poetry submissions for an edited book collection titled Dear America: Reflections on Race. This collection takes the issue that most divides this country, and moves it to the quiet, intimate stories of people from across the country. This collection isn’t meant to advocate a position. Instead, we want the personal stories and reflections from people who come from diverse backgrounds and want to share their American story.

To be considered for the book, authors can send their submissions to dearamerica@thegeekypress.com. Submissions must be received by July 31, 2017 and include the following:

  • Subject Line of email: DEAR AMERICA
  • Author’s name, address and contact information
  • Your Work:
    • Essays and Creative Nonfiction: Submit completed work between 1,000 and 5,000 words
    • Fiction:  Submit completed work between 1,000 and 5,000 words
    • Scripts: A ten-minute script
    • Poetry: Submit completed work; no more than 5 pages
    • Photo Essay: No more than 5 pictures and 100 words per picture
    • Video Essay: No more than five minutes (YouTube, Vimeo link)**
  • Bio: 150-200 words

All submissions, including those that aren’t selected for the book, may be published on the Youshare Project website. If you do not want to be considered for Youshare, please let us know in your submission.
