Indianapolis Art Center Seeks Artwork for Curio Cabinet Exhibition

Curio Cabinet Exhibition Application

The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries from artists in any medium 18 or older living in Indiana for Curio Cabinet, a curated group exhibition. Curio Cabinet will examine the role of art to inspire curiosity, mystery, intrigue, and wonder. We are looking for the offbeat, the inquisitive, and all things enigmatic. The show will be curated by the Art Center’s Director of Exhibitions and Events, Kyle Herrington.

Artists are invited to submit up to 10 pieces for consideration. From the work submitted, approximately 60 – 80 pieces will be selected for inclusion in the exhibition. Of the selected work, 2 pieces will be chosen to receive a $500 award; Best of 2D (including video) and Best of 3D (including installation). Awards will be
announced at the Opening Reception in a public ceremony.

Eligibility:
Submission is free and open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in Indiana. Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center. All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion. All mediums are eligible. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space. Artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be larger than 10 feet in any direction.

Accepted Work:
The Indianapolis Art Center exhibitions staff reserves the right to remove any works from the exhibition based on special installation circumstances or discrepancies between the juried images and actual work.

All accepted work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition, August 5, 2017. All work must come ready to install/hang. For multi-media and other installations, artist should be available to assist with installation (to take place June 1 – 8, 2017). All work may be offered for sale. The Art Center retains a 35% commission on all sales.

Delivery:
All artwork must arrive by Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Artist is responsible for hand-delivering or the shipping cost and insurance of the work while in transit. Work must be shipped in a reusable container and return shipping is also to be paid by the artist. Hand-delivered work may be dropped off beginning Monday, May 2 through Friday, June 3, 2016.

The Art Center is open: Monday – Friday 9a.m. – 10p.m. Saturday 9a.m. – 6p.m. Sunday Noon – 6p.m.

Liability:
The Art Center will be responsible for insuring the exhibition while on view, and upon request will furnish a certificate of insurance indicating that the works are so insured prior to transportation. The Artist is responsible for providing an itemized insurance list on the Art Center’s form. This form will be emailed to the artists once accepted into the exhibition.

Timeline:
Entries Due – Friday, April 21, 2017
Artist Notified – Monday, April 24, 2017
Artwork Delivered – May 2 –June 3, 2017
Public Exhibition Reception – Friday, June 9, 2017 6pm – 9pm
Exhibition Run – June 9, 2017 – August 5, 2017
