Arts Commission to host Creative Placemaking Workshop

The Indiana Arts Commission is accepting registration for a June workshop on creative placemaking.

From the Ground Up” is a day and a half-long workshop that will introduce the practice of creative placemaking as a viable strategy for small and / or primarily rural communities and neighborhoods. The workshop will be June 8 and 9, 2017 in Indianapolis, with sessions led by artists and creative placemaking professionals from throughout Indiana and the Midwest.

“Communities of all sizes are increasingly finding the arts have a fundamental place in forward-thinking community planning and development,” said Lewis C. Ricci, IAC Executive Director. “Look at the number of Indiana communities that have undertaken redevelopment projects that began with the renovation of an historic theater, or the creation of an outdoor performance space.”

The Arts Commission is currently accepting RSVPs for priority registration, with open registration beginning March 8. Registration cost is $50 per person, $45 for two or more registrants. This workshop will provide valuable information about how cultural assets and artists are positioned to help community development efforts succeed.
