SEEKING INDIANA POETS & SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS

The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) is seeking local poets and spoken word artists to submit an original piece for a chance to be selected to perform at its 5th Annual Fair Housing Conference and Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Indianapolis Marriott East. Those selected will also be compensated with a small monetary award for their time. This year’s theme is “No Hate in Our Neighborhood: How Fair Housing Laws Combat Hate & Promote Inclusion.” You can learn more about the conference here.

WHO: Local Indiana spoken word artists and poets that are passionate about fair housing, civil rights, inclusiveness for everyone, and ending discrimination in housing. Open to all – including past performers at FHCCI events.

WHAT: Selected artists/poets will submit their original art piece, that will be performed at the conference if selected, to the FHCCI for consideration and a few select winners will perform at the 5th Annual Fair Housing Conference and Anniversary Celebration. Attendance at the event is typically 300-350 attendees allowing for strong exposure of your art. Winners will also be compensated with a small monetary award in appreciation and for their time.

WHERE/WHEN: Applicants MUST be available to perform at the conference at the Indianapolis Marriott East on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Time to perform will be around our lunchtime presentations, but winners are welcome to enjoy the entire conference free of charge. Submissions are due March 15, 2017.

HOW: Email (or send a link of) a video of you performing your original piece, that will be performed at the conference if selected, to bripperger@fhcci.org by March 15, 2017. Be sure to include your name, a contact phone number, and the title to your piece. No submissions sent after this time/date will be considered. We look forward to your creativity! Remember, submit only what you would like to perform at the conference. We will accept up to TWO submissions per artist.

WHY: The FHCCI is a small, advocacy nonprofit organization that exists to eliminate housing discrimination through a variety of programs, including education and advocacy. The annual fair housing conference exists to educate people on fair housing laws and promote inclusion within our neighborhoods. We recognize the importance of the arts and their impact on civil rights issues. Showcasing our local talent at our conference is a way to show our support for local spoken word artists.
