The New Hampshire Institute of Art is pleased to partner with the National Center for Creative Placemaking to offer a new Certificate in Creative Placemaking.  This low-residency program provides a comprehensive and challenging opportunity for those interested in effecting community change using creative activity.  As a creative placemaker, you will be able to effectively address social, economic, and cultural issues using existing community resources to enhance what makes a place special.

The 10-month program includes an initial 2-1/2 day residency in Manchester, NH with subsequent deep learning coursework, one-on-one leadership coaching, and a capstone project, delivered online.  The residency dates are August 21-23, 2017 and the program continues through May, 2018.  The certificate program is available for continuing education and/or graduate credit.

Online content includes six four-week course modules, with defined content and learning outcomes, taught by experts in the field. Participants are encouraged to use their own communities as ongoing case studies for comparison to each other.  Leadership coaching is conducted monthly through live videoconferencing to explore theme-based critical challenges. The Capstone Project allows the student to bring together all course content to make meaningful change in their community:  the student can choose between mocking up a creative placemaking plan process, conducting an analysis of existing creative placemaking efforts in a community and making recommendations for improvement, or writing a paper of publishable quality exploring a course issue in more detail, with the opportunity to present it at a future placemaking conference or leadership summit.

Registration is first-come, first-served and closes on August 11, 2017.  The program cost is $3,995 and includes tuition fees, room and board for the residency, all course materials, and a 1 one-year subscription to Planetizen, an online resource library.  Scholarships are available, and a payment plan can be set up.
