The Arts Council of Indianapolis announces an opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent B.A./M.A. holder, to serve as an intern with its Public Art department.  The department consists of one full-time Director and a Coordinator shared with the Artist Services department.

The intern will primarily assist the Public Art staff with maintaining the Arts Council’s Public Art Directory.  Duties will consist of reviewing existing entries for accuracy, researching facts, correcting entries, adding new entries, adding photography, and (skills permitting) creating new photography.

Additional projects occurring during the semester, which may require assistance from the intern, are two new community-oriented programs:  the launch of the Public Art for Neighborhoods program and a creative placemaking initiative called Indy East Art Peace.

In addition to performing assigned tasks, the intern will likely be exposed to many facets of public art work including project meetings, selection processes, on-site installations, master planning, and community engagement.  The intern may also be exposed to other Arts Council departments including Artist Services, the Indianapolis Artsgarden, Gallery 924 at the Arts Council, Grant Services, Arts Education, and Marketing.

The intern may also choose to work on a public-art-related independent project with departmental supervision, as desired or as time permits.

The internship schedule is flexible.  The intern may work two or three blocks of time per week as convenient, approximately 10 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The total number of hours for this internship is 150 during the course of the semester.

This is a paid internship.  The intern will receive a stipend of $1,500.00 for the semester, assuming the full schedule of 10 hours per week for 15 weeks is completed.  Interns are required to complete a timesheet.
