What defines a hero? A hero could be a historical figure, social activist, or even a friend or family member who has had a positive impact. Help the Garfield Arts Center celebrate Black History Month and African-American heroes through the visuals arts.

Artists working in any 2D or 3D mediums are encouraged to apply. Acceptable media include, but art not limited to: paintings, drawings, fiber arts, digital art, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed-media, collage, assemblage, mosaics, metalsmithing and woodworking.

Any performance artists, musicians, poets, and writers are also encouraged to submit their work or perform at First Friday or any other February events. If interested, please contact GPAC@indy.gov.

There is no cost to submit.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Freestanding work must not exceed seventy‐two (72) inches in height or fifty (50) pounds.
  • Original 2D works must not be larger than 48” x 60.”
  • All works must be ready to hang or install upon arrival. If your piece hangs, some sort of hanging structure, such as a wire, must be included as we cannot hang anything from the ceiling. Please contact GPAC for information or questions. If shipped, work must include return shipping.

Please also include the images of your work you intend to submit for the exhibition, either attached to the email or on a CD, if mailing a portfolio.

Artists will be notified of all decisions no later than January 23, 2018.

All works must be delivered to the Arts Center no later than Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 4pm. If you would like to make arrangements to drop off your work during non-business hours, please call or email.
