Auditions for  “The Princess, The Witch and The Magic Socks,” by Sondra Hayes which will be presented at the IndyFringe Theatre Festival, August 18-26, 2018.

Auditions are set for Wednesday, June 13, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm, downtown at Unity of Indianapolis, 907 N. Delaware St., 46202. Be prepared to sing a song acappella (without accompaniment) and to read from the script.

Synopsis of the play:
Princess Charli’s dreams are suddenly interrupted by a problem that has an entire community (kingdom) struggling to deal with her resulting behavior challenges. Charli’s family, friends and the entire community work together with a specialist named “Heather,” who diagnosis the problem and offers a special remedy in the form of a tiny pair of Magic Socks (the cure).

Character Breakdown

Princess Charli: African American, age 6-10. Although independent, head strong and determined to have her way, is sweet, happy, and kind. Lives in the Kingdom of Epoh in a pink castle with her mother, father, and grandmother who all spoil her.

Rosemary: Caucasian, Charli’s maternal grandmother, age 55-65. Lives in the pink castle with Charli, Paul and her daughter Melody, a good listener, but overindulges Charli by not making her mind, and keeps her out of trouble by covering up her bad behavior. She is also hiding a secret from her past.

Sondra: African American, Charli’s paternal grandmother, age 55-60. Assertive, an experienced teacher who is calm, loving, kind, firm, and a good disciplinarian. She does not live in the castle, but lives in Actionville, a town not far away. Although she has had difficulty in her past, she has learned how to help herself and others who are facing challenges.

Melody: Biracial, Charli’s mother, age 29-34. Indulges Charli and has problems disciplining Charli. Lives in the pink castle. She is hiding a secret about her past.

Paul: African American, Charli’s father, age 29-36. Lives in the castle, easy going, indulges Charli, and he, too, is hiding a secret from his past.

Heather: Multi-ethic, possibly Asian, African American, and/or Native American. 55-75 ageless. A wise healer, herbalist, has vast experience working with those in the kingdom who have been victimized by Antipática the Witch.

Narrator 1 & 2: narrates powerful male or female voice, any race, for introduction, the witch’s introduction, the magic crown, and messenger.
