PEN America is pleased to announce that they are currently accepting applications for 2018-19 Literary Grants & Fellowships. This cycle PEN America is offering grants for translated international literature, English translation of Italian literature, and literary oral history, and fellowships for emerging writers, children’s/YA fiction, and writing for justice.

2018-2019 Grants & Fellowships

Grants and fellowships offered this cycle:

PEN/Phyllis Naylor Working Writer Fellowship for Children’s/YA Fiction ($5,000)
The PEN/Phyllis Naylor Working Writer Fellowship is offered annually to an author of children’s or young-adult fiction whose work is of high literary caliber, and is designed to assist a writer at a crucial moment in their career to complete a book-length work-in-progress. Deadline October 1, 2018.

PEN/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History ($10,000)
The PEN/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History is offered annually to an author of a literary work of nonfiction that uses oral history to illuminate an event, individual, place, or movement, and is designed to assist a writer at a crucial moment in their work-in-progress. Deadline August 15, 2018.

PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant ($2,000-4,000)
The PEN/Heim Translation Fund provides grants to support the translation of book-length works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or drama that have not previously appeared in English in print or have appeared only in an outdated or otherwise flawed translation. Deadline July 20, 2018.

PEN America Writing for Justice Fellowship
The inaugural PEN America Writing for Justice Fellowship will commission six writers—emerging or established—to create written works of lasting merit that illuminate critical issues related to mass incarceration and catalyze public debate. Deadline July 1, 2018.
