Job description:

The Backstage Crew Chief works directly with the Stage Manager to ensure the smooth operation of backstage scenic elements during Beef & Boards productions. The Crew Chief runs the stage deck including operating the revolves, rolls, roll drops, set changes, fly lines as well as conduct last minute repairs on set pieces and props, during a 7 to 8 show week. Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre is a year-round professional dinner theatre operating a motorized thrust stage with revolve. The theatre seats 460 guests and does eight main stage productions and two children’s productions annually.

Work schedule:

Tuesday – Sunday. Approximately 32 hours a week. Mondays will be required during rehearsal and tech weeks.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Supervise and assist the crew in running all backstage duties of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre, including running a specific track for shows as assigned by the Stage Manager.
  • Assist with the load-in, load-out, and change-over weeks of all Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre productions.
  • Ensure that pre-show safety checks and pre-sets are performed on all stage elements.
  • Ensure that all scenic elements are being maintained, functionally and artistically, during the run of the production.
  • Provide leadership and guidance and needed.
  • Coordinate and plan the backstage set-up for stage management, props, costumes, sound and electronics when necessary.
  • Appear on stage for scene shifts as needed.
  • Meet with production crew for each production.
  • Maintain lighting instruments and evaluate lighting system needs.
  • Basic carpentry tasks.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and experience:

  • Applicants should have a strong knowledge of rigging, carpentry, and experience running automated scenery.
  • Lighting maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience and education in technical theatre are preferred.

Compensation:

Beginning salary: $25,000 plus insurance eligibility after 90 days.
