Herron School of Art and Design is seeking candidates for a faculty position as either a tenure track Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Ceramics/Digital Ceramics with experience in one or more of the following areas: Contemporary Craft, Architectural and Industrial applications, Installation, Performance, and/or Design. The position will begin August 1, 2019. The candidate should have the ability to teach with Ceramics as a creative and integrative practice and should be able to contribute to shared or intersecting areas of expertise in other areas of the school and campus.

Herron views Ceramics as an evolving creative practice that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries and is broadly defined by purpose rather than by media alone. Students in the program employ both traditional and state of the art methods and approaches as well as an increasing array of digital and time-based media.  They create content with the intent of conveying specific meaning and messages while developing skills for professional practice in the arts, education and industry.

Qualifications

Minimum qualification for Tenure Track position:

• Terminal degree in a relevant field in hand prior to the start of the appointment
• College level teaching experience or professional experience directly relevant to the position
• Substantial experience in one or more of the following areas: digital ceramics, practice that explores contemporary craft, architectural and industrial applications, installation, performance, design, jewelry
• Commitment to teaching undergraduate students
• Maintaining an ongoing creative and/or professional practice

Minimum qualification for Lecturer position:

• Terminal degree in a relevant field prior to the start of the appointment
• Some teaching experience such as Graduate teaching relevant to the position
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: digital ceramics, practice that explores contemporary craft, utility, architectural and industrial applications, installation, performance, and/or design
• Commitment to teaching undergraduate students
• Potential for creative and/or professional practice

Preferred qualifications:

• Ability to teach ceramics as a creative and integrative practice that spans multiple media, at graduate and undergraduate levels
• Interest in contributing to shared or intersecting areas of practice throughout the Herron School of Art and Design and the IUPUI campus
• Teaching experience beyond teaching assistantships
• Established record of exhibitions, publications, commissioned or contracted work, professional design work, or professional-level applications of art or design in non-traditional settings
• Solid understanding of the history of crafts/ceramics
• Experience with civic engagement or potential for working with organizations or contexts beyond the academic institution
• Commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom and in co-curricular settings
