CALL TO ARTISTS  – 2019 Sculptures Angola

2019 marks the first year for the “Sculptures Angola”. This project is a partnership between the Angola Hometown Collaboration Initiative (HCI) and the City of Angola Mayor’s Arts Council. Sculptures that are owned by artists will be on loan to this program for one (1) year. Application deadline is Friday, February 8, 2019. Priority will be given to durable welded metal outdoor sculptures that have visual appeal to all ages. Four outdoor sculptures are planned to be displayed publicly in historic downtown Angola’s Public Square. This event is open to local and national artists. Four (4) outdoor sculptures are estimated to be accepted with a lease cost of $1375.00/each plus a travel stipend of up to $125 and one overnight stay in a single designated Steuben County, Indiana hotel.

Eligibility

Artist must be at least 18 years of age. Submitted sculptures must be original works created within the last five (5) years, suitable for outdoor display and for sale. Entries will be critiqued based on artistic merit, materials, construction, durability, maintenance, public access, public safety, variety of entries, durability in an outdoor setting, and size. The art will be selected by members of Angola’s Hometown Collaboration Initiative (HCI) and the City of Angola Mayor’s Arts Council. Digital submissions (preferred) should be in .jpg format and under 4MB in size and labeled with the last name of the artist and the name of the work. (example: smith_name of work)

Artists will be notified of the selection committee’s decision by Friday, March 1, 2019. The date of installation will be Saturday, June 15, 2019, to be finished by 1:00pm.

Along with entry form, image(s), and artist biography/resume. All entries must be postmarked (or email dated) by Friday, February 8, 2019, (midnight). Emailed entries are preferred. Please send to: mdavis@angolain.org

General Information:

o Outdoor sculpture lease – $1375.00

o For artists driving 50+ miles one way, a stipend up to $125 (max) travel allowance will be provided based on $0.50 per mile from the City of Angola City Hall – 210 N Public Sq., Angola, IN. If an artists’ accepted work is transported by another artist, this allowance is void.

o Artists are responsible for transportation, installation and removal at site.

o The City of Angola will not be liable for accidents or damage associated and during transportation and installation to and from the installation venue. o Locations for the installation will be determined by the City of Angola.

o Bases will be provided for the sculptures and are owned by the City of Angola and/or its partners unless a different arrangement is made with the City of Angola.

o Any sales/leases of the sculptures will be conducted by the artists or their agent and will not involve the City of Angola.

o Sculptures are to remain on site for the duration of the project (June 15, 2019 – May 31, 2020) unless other arrangements have been made with the City of Angola.

o Note: Accepted artists are encouraged to attend the “Sculptures in Angola” unveiling event (Sat., June 15, 2019, 5:30pm).
