Artists, watch a well-known critic review your work for free.

The way Lori Waxman’s “60 wrd/min art critic” works is simple. She sets up a desk, whips out her laptop and looks at work an artist has brought in for her to see. Within half an hour, she’ll take notes and type up a review between 100 and 200 words that will be published.

The artists can watch the Chicago Tribune columnist write. Waxman always has a projector or flat-screen monitor connected to her laptop. Some stand silently as she works. Some send friends in their stead because having one’s work reviewed can be an awkward endeavor. At least one has talked to the critic the entire time she was writing.

Since 2005, Waxman has brought “60 wrd/min art critic” all over the U.S. and to England and Germany. From April 30 to May 2, she will be at the Herron School of Art and Design

Who can apply?
For “60 wrd/min art critic,” Waxman puts out the call to “anyone who has an art practice and wants serious, thoughtful feedback.”

How to apply
“60 wrd/min art critic” is open to anyone of any skill level who would like to submit their artwork and receive serious, thoughtful feedback, Waxman said.

To apply: Email Waxman at critic@60wrdmin.org for an appointment and include your time and date preferences. The deadline is April 23.

Thirty artists will be randomly selected. If chosen, you’ll receive an email with more instructions. Reviews are free and will be published at nuvo.net.

When the performance happens: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 30 and May 1. 1:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. May 2. Admission is free.

Where: Waxman’s popup office will be in the Basile Center for Art, Design and Public Life in Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St.

Free parking: In the Sports Complex Garage and on levels five and six of the Riverwalk Garage. The Herron galleries will validate.
