Call for Artists/Authors for Lucha Libro Fest- Indianapolis!

La Sardina Pop-Up Gallery and the Indianapolis Central Library invite you to submit work for consideration for the Lucha Libro Fest – an unforgettable event!.

La Sardina Gallery is a traveling cultural space and pop-up gallery project that opens in commercial spaces and abandoned storefronts. The goal of La Sardina is to be multicultural ambassadors: creating a bridge between worlds through music events, art exhibitions, and performances in different communities throughout Indianapolis. La Sardina has partnered with numerous organizations to bring multicultural arts programming to different communities, and also facilitate Latino- focused programming in already established arts organizations.

Through the Lucha Libro Fest at the Central Library, they seek to create a cultural bridge that many communities all over the world can celebrate, WRESTLING! The Mexican Lucha Libre and the various American Wrestling Associations have had a long- standing cultural exchange. Wrestling performers cross from Mexico to the United States and vice versa to have a constantly rotating cast and crew as well as different job prospects for both communities. These wrestlers have become legendary, mythic characters in the hearts of young and old all over the world! Indiana also has a rich history of professional wrestlers including big names like The Ultimate Warrior, Dick the Bruiser, and Mick Foley just to name a few.

They will bring a talented group of Lucha Libre: (Mexican Masked Wrestlers), masks, ring and all to celebrate this unique cultural tie, while also having engaging activities aimed at literacy and cross- cultural connectivity.

La Sardina will create an art exhibit at Central Library featuring paintings, prints, objects, photographs, and written material relating to Lucha Libre and American Wrestling and pop culture around these traditional sports.

Consideration for the Lucha Libro Fest is going on now through July 31st, 2019. Artists need to submit digital images (small file JPGs) of their original artwork, or PDFs of their written work.
