Registration opens for the third annual Indiana Arts Homecoming Conference
The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced registration is open for the third annual Indiana Arts Homecoming taking place October 24 – 25, 2019 at the Indiana Historical Society in downtown Indianapolis.
The Indiana Arts Homecoming is a gathering of Indiana’s artists, arts providers, and creative communities who are doing work every day to create opportunities that are vibrant, engaging, and embedded in the lives of our citizens. The conference is expected to attract more than 300 attendees from all communities throughout the state.
Last year the conference was held in Fort Wayne and received rave reviews. One attendee from Lafayette described their experience at the conference as, “invigorating and inspiring to see all that is being done throughout our state, and to meet the people behind these incredible projects and ideas.”
The theme for the 2019 Indiana Arts Homecoming is Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access: Arts for All. The conference will explore what “Arts for All” means in practice, inspire new ideas as participants advance their work using this specific lens, and deepen leadership and capacity for artists, organizations and communities.
In addition to the main conference, registration is open for a pre-conference with “TimeSlips”. Developed by Anne Basting Ph.D., the program is a creative storytelling method that helps people with mid to late stage dementia reaffirm their humanity and connect with staff, family, and friends. Rather than pressure people with dementia to remember, the program encourages them to cultivate their imaginations. This training is ideal for artists interested in expanding their storytelling skills and how they can infuse their practice into care settings. No previous experience in this work is required.
