PURPOSE:
The Museum Events and Group Visits Manager (EGVM) fills an essential role at WonderLab as the initial contact for many museum customers. WonderLab is a place where people choose to celebrate special life moments, and the EGVM is deeply involved in crafting experiences that result in cherished memories. In this position you will help organize new beginnings (weddings, baby showers), milestones (school field trips, birthdays, annual parties, summer camp), and full-circle celebrations (anniversaries, memorials, member events). The EGVM has their finger on the pulse of the museum, provides a listening ear for customer feedback and problem solving, and contributes a creative vision for museum marketing initiatives to increase revenue. In this role you will become deeply skilled in point-of-sale and integrated member/donor database systems, non-profit operations, and content driven social media campaigns. The EGVM is the face of WonderLab for many partner agencies and local businesses, and works with local organizations and groups such as Downtown Bloomington Inc., the City of Bloomington, and the Alliance of Bloomington Museums. As a staff member you will work as part of a dynamic team focused on creativity and innovation. As a WonderLab representative you will be a part of beloved community institution that is people-centered, community-focused, and mission driven. You will be immersed in a fun, lively environment rich with the voices of delighted children, a gallery of hands-on science exhibits, and a committed, creative staff dedicated to building curious and creative problem solvers, inspired by the wonder of science, who will shape a brighter future for themselves and our world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote, schedule, and coordinate all group visits and events at WonderLab with outstanding customer service. This includes managing sales and revenue for: school and other group visits, birthday parties, programs, WonderCamp, museum rentals and other special events.
  • Work as part of the Marketing Team to increase museum visitation, garner new audiences and increase sales.
  • Administer financial accessibilty initiatives to ensure fair and equitable access to various populations.
  • Maintain museum schedules and calendars to serve as mission control for all museum activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Reliable with strong work ethic.
  • Friendly, positive and professional manner communicating in person or by telephone; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of people. Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to working with diverse populations are especially encouraged to apply.
  • College or associate degree.
  • Sales or customer service experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving, team orientated environment.
  • Experience with social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat.
  • Experience with various software and cloud based programs preferred: Google Suite, Constant Contact, Adobe, Word Press, Altru and Blackbaud.
  • Experience with SQL preferred.
  • Physical capability to lift 30 pounds, reach high shelving and function in high-energy environment throughout the day.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in U.S.

STATUS: Full time (40 hours per week), salaried, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening, late evening and weekend hours (Fair Labor Standards Act category: “non-exempt”).

PAY RATE: $28,000-$30,000 annually depending on experience

START DATE: August – September, 2019
