The Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC) is seeking an instructor to teach an adult beginner ceramics class for 2020. These classes will center around a project planned by the instructor, and are meant to introduce students to basic clay handbuilding techniques. The instructor must commit to holding class once a week (Tuesday or Thursday) in the evening. Each course lasts 4 weeks, and repeats through the end of the year (though the project does not have to be the same).

They focus on handbuilding techniques as they do not currently have pottery wheels for hand-throwing. The clay studio is stocked with clay tools and glazes, a slab roller, and a kiln. Clay is ordered from Brickyard Ceramics (Amaco), and they typically have 11-M, 29-M, and 77-M in stock at GPAC for students to purchase.

GPAC pays instructors $20/hour for instruction and prep time. Instructors submit their invoices at the end of each session to management, and a check is cut and mailed.

• Which time slot you prefer: Tuesdays at either 6-8 pm or 7-9 pm; Thursdays at either 6-8 pm, or 7-9 pm.

Submission accepted until October 25. Candidates will be contacted no later than Nov. 8 to schedule an interview.
