Herron School of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor in Art Education with a passion for teaching, the potential to take a leading role in an established BAE program, and demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban communities and schools. The position will begin August 1, 2020.
The position has a dual appointment with the IUPUI School of Education where faculty are actively engaged in teaching, scholarship of teaching, and research that focuses on social justice and anti-racist practices, partnerships with urban communities and schools, and critical perspectives in education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate art education classes, teaching and assisting with the student teaching seminar, teaching and coordinating adjuncts to instruct art methods courses for elementary pre-service teachers, advising and mentoring students, establishing and maintaining external relationships with PK-12 public schools, and assisting in recruitment efforts. In addition, faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of research/creative activities and publications, and provide service to the department, school, and university community. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching/research across art programs and university departments, study abroad courses, and art museums. The Art Education Program at Herron has over 60 majors with an active NAEA student organization and innovative community learning programs.
