The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries for artists in any medium 18 or older living in the United States for a “Body Building: The Art of the Human Figure” – A national juried exhibition focusing on new and innovative artwork made about or featuring the human figure. Cash awards total $2,500.00. This show accepts up to six entries per artist or artist team – entry fee for minimum 2 images is $25 with $5 for each additional entry up to 6 images. The show will be juried by Kyle Herrington, Director of Exhibitions and Events at the Indianapolis Art Center.

Entry Fee/Images:
$25 non-refundable entry fee for the submission of two pieces, $5 additional for up to 6 pieces. Each artist or artist team may submit up to six pieces of work for jurying.

  • Eligibility:
    This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States.
  • Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center.
  • All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion.

Media:

  • All media eligible, although work must have a tie-in to the body or human figure, literally or figuratively, as subject matter. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space.
  • 2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be bigger than 10’ x 10’.

Awards:

Best in Show – $1,500.00

Best in 2D (includes video) – $500.00

Best in 3D (includes installation) – $500.00

Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception in a public ceremony. It is encouraged that artists attend the reception, but not required.

Accepted Work:

  • The Indianapolis Art Center exhibitions staff reserves the right to remove any works from the exhibition based on special installation circumstances or discrepancies between the juried images and actual work.
  • All accepted work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition, April 8, 2020
  • All work must come ready to install/hang. For multi-media and other installations artist should be available to assist with installation (to take place February 6-13, 2020).
  • All work may be offered for sale. The Art Center retains a 35% commission on all sales.

Delivery:

  • All artwork must arrive by Thursday, February 6, 2020. Artist is responsible for the shipping cost and insurance of the work while in transit. Work must be shipped in a reusable container and return shipping is also to be paid by the artist. Hand-delivered work may be dropped off beginning Monday, January 20 through Thursday, February 6, 2020
  • The Art Center is open: Monday – Friday 9a.m. – 10p.m. Saturday 9a.m. – 6p.m. Sunday Noon – 6p.m.

Liability:

  • The Art Center will be responsible for insuring the exhibition while on view, and upon request will furnish a certificate of insurance indicating that the works are so insured prior to transportation. The Artist is responsible for providing an itemized insurance list on the Art Center’s form. This form will be emailed to the artists once accepted into the exhibition.

Calendar of Events:

  • Sunday, December 15, 2019 – Submissions due
  • Tuesday, December 17, 2019 – Notifications sent out (via email through Café)
  • Friday, February 21, 2020 – exhibition opens, free public reception, public announcement of award winners 6-9 p.m.
  • April 8, 2020 – last day of exhibition
