Muralists sought for downtown Anderson, IN

Anderson Indiana Main Street, Inc (AIMS) invites artists to apply for a public art project in downtown Anderson. AIMS seeks artists who can create interactive, visually appealing and unique murals that will help contribute to downtown Anderson’s sense of place.

Budget: $10 per square foot

Eligibility: must be 18 years of age; must live or work within 100 miles of Anderson

Deadline: February 26, 2020

Section process and criteria: Artists will be selected by the AIMS board. After selection, the artists will be sent further information about the mural sites including a picture of their assigned location. The artists will work with the AIMS board and building owner to finalize the design of the mural. The selection will be finalized with a signed contract between all interested parties. Criteria for selection will be based upon: quality of design and skill of past projects; past experience working with public art; resume; references.

Project description: The artists selected for this project will create an interactive and innovative public art mural that contributes to the aesthetic appeal and entertainment value of downtown Anderson. There are currently 2 locations available for murals:

Location #1 – dimensions roughly 35in (w) x 79in (h); single doorway currently painted metal; mural must be interactive

Location #2 – dimensions roughly 50in (w) x 83in (h); double set of doors with glass windows framed by wood; mural must be interactive

Timeline

  • February 26th – Deadline to submit qualifications
  • March 9th – Artist notified of selection
  • March/April – Finalize design for project and sign contract
  • May/June – Paint murals
  • October – Unveiling of murals
