The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries for artists in any medium 18 or older living in the Midwest for a Juried Exhibition. Cash awards total $4,000.00. 2 Director’s Choice Awards will be a Solo Show each at the Indianapolis Art Center.  The show will be juried by Bryn Jackson, Assistant Curator of Audience Engagement and Performance at Newfields.

ABOUT THE JUROR:

Bryn Jackson is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and filmmaker who lives and works in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has exhibited in a number of galleries, clubs, universities, and anarchist spaces in New York, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles, and his work – which ranges from photography and print to digital video and interactive media – has been published by Creeps Annual and Papercut Press. Jackson participated in La Residencia en Calli Huitzilin in San José del Pacífico, Oaxaca, MX. He received a BFA in Film and Television Production from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Art and Technology Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jackson currently works as Assistant Curator of Audience Engagement and Performance at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, where his practice focuses on diversity in representation and equitable access to community resources. Notable projects include Samuel Levi Jo​nes: Left of Center, co-curated with Dr. Kelli Morgan, Associate Curator of American Art, and At the Crossroads: A Community Meal by Seitu Jones, a Social Practice project centered on addressing food security in Indianapolis.

Entry Fee/Images:

  • $25 non-refundable entry fee for the submission of two pieces. Each additional entry beyond two has a fee of $5.

Eligibility:

  • This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Minnesota, Iowa, or Missouri.
  • Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center.
  • All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion.

Media:

  • All media eligible. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space.
  • 2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be bigger than 10’ x 10’.

Awards:

  • Chosen by the juror
    • Best in Show – $1,500.00
    • Best in 2D (includes video) – $500.00
    • Best in 3D (includes installation) – $500.00
    • 5 Honorable Mentions – $200.00 each
  • Chosen by the Indianapolis Art Center’s Director of Exhibitions:
    • 2 Director’s Choice Award – $250 and a Solo Exhibition Each

Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception in a public ceremony.

Accepted Work:

  • The Indianapolis Art Center exhibitions staff reserves the right to remove any works from the exhibition based on special installation circumstances or discrepancies between the juried images and actual work.
  • All accepted work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition, August 3, 2020
  • All work must come ready to install/hang. For multi-media and other installations artist should be available to assist with installation (to take place June 11-17, 2020).
  • All work may be offered for sale, but is not required to be. The Art Center retains a 35% commission on all sales.

Delivery:

  • All artwork must arrive by Thursday, June 11, 2020. Artist is responsible for the shipping cost and insurance of the work while in transit. Work must be shipped in a reusable container and return shipping is also to be paid by the artist. Hand-delivered work may be dropped off beginning Friday, May 1 through Thursday, June 11, 2020.
  • The Art Center is open: Monday – Friday 9a.m. – 10p.m. Saturday 9a.m. – 6p.m. Sunday Noon – 6p.m.

Liability:

  • The Art Center will be responsible for insuring the exhibition while on view, and upon request will furnish a certificate of insurance indicating that the works are so insured prior to transportation. The Artist is responsible for providing an itemized insurance list on the Art Center’s form. This form will be emailed to the artists once accepted into the exhibition.

Calendar of Events:

  • Friday, April 3, 2020 – Submissions due
  • April 6 – 8, 2020– Artwork Juried
  • Friday, April 10, 2020 – Notifications sent out (via email through Café)
  • Friday, June 19, 2020 – exhibition opens, free public reception, public announcement of award winners 6-9 p.m.
  • August 3, 2020 – last day of exhibition
