GUIDELINES & PROCEDURES

Spring Grant Term applications received March 1 – April 30, 2020
Note: Selected grant project must be completed by December 2020.

In support of the Faith, Justice & the Arts (FJA) mission, the committee created an Artist Grant Program. Artists are expected to create a work which will impact both St. Paul’s parishioners and the Indianapolis community at large; the artist is also expected to take part in at least one educational forum at St. Paul’s to introduce the work. Grant applications will be evaluated based on the proposal’s relationship to the intersection of faith, and the feasibility of the proposed project, including timeline, budget and scope of activities. The work can be created through music, dance, theater, literature, visual arts and/or other media.

About St. Paul’s
St. Paul’s initiative for Faith, Justice & the Arts (FJA) was created to fulfill the promise of the Baptismal Covenant to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being. To achieve this, they will use the arts to create community-wide experiences and conversations that raise awareness about issues of injustice and lead to faithful and transformative engagement in the community.

General Submission Criteria
Artists who receive an Artist Grant from FJA are expected to create a work which will impact both the community of St. Paul’s Indy and the Indianapolis community at large within the time frame of the grant. Recipients are also expected to take part in at least one St. Paul’s educational forum to introduce their work.

The work can be created through music, dance, theater, literature, visual arts, and/or other media. Funds can be used for materials, instruction, workshops, studio or rehearsal space, installation, and artist support. Artists can be at any point in their careers. Consideration may also be given to groups such as student groups, support groups, patient groups, to create group projects.

Artist Eligibility
Submission deadline for the 2020 Spring Artist Grant is April 30, 2020. All whose projects meet the above criteria and who are willing to work within the following funding restrictions are welcome to apply.

Details on the Fall 2020 Artist Grant is forthcoming. Artists interested in applying for a grant during the next term are encouraged to watch fjaindy.org for details.

Spring 2020 Grant Amount
A grant in the amount of up to $30,000 will be awarded in June 2020. Payment will be made in two installments: 50% of the requested amount at the time of award, and the remainder upon completion of the project.

The grant recipient will be required to submit an IRS W-9 form so that an IRS 1099 income statement can be issued by St. Paul’s for the artist’s tax records. All taxes and reporting of taxes will be the responsibility of the grant recipient.

Grant Funding
Funds may be used for travel, housing, and/or the equipment necessary to conduct proposed activities. Funds may also be used for materials necessary to create artwork in preparation for an exhibition or performance. Artists will be responsible for making all arrangements and/or purchases for their activities.
