This position will manage the Glass, Wood, and Sculpture Studios as well as a team of instructors teaching in all three departments. The Program Manager will also be expected to teach and perform administrative duties. Applicants should have extensive knowledge and experience in management/leadership, and teaching. Experience maintaining and managing a public glass, wood, and/or sculpture studios is preferred. We are looking for a team player who is passionate for arts education, is a self-starter, and is willing to learn, grow, and contribute to the Education Team.

Job Summary:  
In conjunction with the Associate Director of Education, the Program Manager of 3D Arts (Glass, Wood, Sculpture) manages operations of onsite educational programs for students 18 and older in a particular medium or area of study. This position is responsible for the supervision of faculty, programming, teaching, and oversees the operations of the physical studio spaces and related functions.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Supervise and manage faculty and staff, including conducting regular classroom observations, providing ongoing feedback and coaching, and conducting annual reviews
  • Maintain open and effective communication between all department instructors, monitors, and other staff, and make arrangements to facilitate smooth and efficient operation of classes and studios.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the studios through participation in class programming, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Education, providing guidance on curriculum, and teaching classes within the studios.
    • Program Managers are expected to be scheduled to teach a minimum of one class per semester and teach no more than three times per week (or no more than 12 hours per week).
    • Provide oversight and responsibility for overall operations and policies of the studio, including safety and proper equipment functionality.
  • Manage and maintain studio schedules (ex. open studio, model scheduling, end-of-semester procedures/schedule, rentals, private lessons, etc.).
  • Manage and maintain studio equipment.

Additional Job Functions:  

  • Manages and maintain equipment needs for the glass, wood, and sculpture studios.
    • Participate in setting and enforcing policies and systems as well as supporting organizational policies and strategic plan.
  • Oversee and manage inventory and supplies needed for all adult programs within the G,W,S department.
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director of Education, ensure adequate staffing for effective studio operations.
  • Actively participate in retention and recruitment of faculty and students.
  • Other additional duties as assigned.

Competency Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): 

  • Possesses functional knowledge of various educational techniques (ex. curriculum development, lesson planning, etc.) and processes related to the studio medium and technical knowledge required for the operation of the studios.
  • The ability to lead others effectively (ex. management skills, coaching, etc.) in order to achieve prescribed goals and objectives.
  • Ability to receive, process, and utilize criticism in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to develop and manage operating budgets.
  • Classroom/behavior management experience.
  • Possesses the proficiency (either through education and/or experience) to engage students of all abilities and teach concepts for specific courses taught.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

Education and Experience: 

  • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in art, art education, or a related field.
  • Two years of teaching experience minimum.
  • Two years of management experience minimum.
  • Experience working with diverse and under-served audiences preferred.
  • Art experience such as exhibitions, commissions, or professional work is also preferred. A personal art portfolio may be requested.
